Active Projects

DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION FOCUS GROUP:

Over 50% of college students are underprepared for college level work.  Montgomery College Engish department is researching best practices to accelerate learning for this population.  As facilitator of the group, I compile and disseminate research on the work various organizations and other colleges are doing to support these students.  This includes faculty biases, curriculum changes, and increased advising/counseling.

ALLIANCE FOR RECOVERY EDUCATION

The mission of the Alliance for Recovery Education is to establish a state-recognized educational institution for chemically dependent students within the greater Washington metropolitan area. Our commitment is to uphold the standards of successful recovery education by providing academic services and recovery assistance for students committed to being abstinent from drugs and alcohol, and achieving credits toward a high school and/or college diploma, while working with a program of recovery.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE LEADERHIP DOCTORAL PROGRAM

This full-time initiative is aligned with my credo of “literacy equals world solutions.”  Specifically, the courses, professors, internships, and research is preparing the next generation of presidents, VPs, CFOs, consultants, administrators, and other education practitioners to reframe, redesign, and reset the direction of community colleges.  As the 21st century learners are entering higher education institutions, they need options that are affordable, accessible, and committed to successful outcomes.  In order to fulfill the mission of empowering the students, it is imperative that NEW LEADERS in the community college system are in place to propel students along their chosen career paths.

Colleague Recommendation

"Tuere is articulate and astute. Her education and experience have served her well in advancing English as a written language as well as she promotes worthy projects of humanity. In addition, we have presented together at conferences."

Theresa Antoine, Aspiring community college leader

Student Testimonial

"Your class almost made me want to major in English. But then....  I read some of my peers papers and decided that I would probably hurt too many students' feelings. I can say that I have the three most AMAZING English teachers since starting at MC!"
